It is important to have regular dental exams. For most people checkups will be scheduled every six months. During your dental checkup, you can expect the following:

  • Cleaning
  • A thorough cleanings will be done by a dental hygienist or the dentist. Using special tools, the dental hygienist will remove any plaque or tartar build-up that can eventually lead to cavities, gum disease, bad breath, or other health problems. After plaque and tartar is removed, your teeth will be polished and flossed.
  • Examination
  • The dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth looking for signs of disease or other issues. The goal is to maintain the best oral health possible. If any problems are found, the dentist will discuss treatment options.
  • X-rays
  • X-rays are essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions. The dentist will examine your x-rays to determine if there are any issues that need to be addressed. Modern X-ray machines emit virtually no radiation and can be captured digitally and view immediately.

Regular dental checkups will help keep your teeth looking their best. Your teeth will stay cleaner, last longer and any potentially painful and/or expensive problems can be prevented.
